Where Healthcare Practices Are Losing Revenue Without Realizing It

Find leakage. Capture earned revenue. Close the payment gap.

Healthcare professionals

Healthcare practices can lose revenue without ever seeing an obvious rejected claim. This hidden loss is commonly referred to as revenue leakage—the difference between the revenue a provider should receive for services delivered and the revenue that is actually collected.

Revenue leakage can occur at almost every stage of the revenue cycle. Incorrect patient information, missed charges, coding errors, underpayments, unworked accounts receivable, authorization problems, and timely-filing issues can all contribute to revenue being left uncollected.

The challenge is that these losses are often scattered across different departments and processes. A small registration error may eventually become a denied claim. A missed modifier may result in reduced reimbursement. An underpayment may be posted as if the payer had correctly reimbursed the account. Individually, these problems may appear insignificant, but repeated across a large patient population, they can create a meaningful financial gap.

For practice administrators, identifying revenue leakage requires more than reviewing monthly collections. It requires examining the entire patient-to-payment journey and determining where expected reimbursement is being lost. Without this visibility, practices may focus heavily on generating more revenue while overlooking money already earned but never collected.
